After making a tradition of having aging funnymen as hosts, the Oscars have decided to go young and dramatic, choosing James Franco and Anne Hathaway as co-hosts for the 2011 show. Both are respected thespians very much on the rise, with Franco receiving praise for his work in 127 Hours and Hathaway starring in the recent release Love and Other Drugs. Hobbit Casting Director Fired After Requesting Only White Performers
After placing a newspaper ad seeking only actors with "light skin tones" to serve as extras, a Hobbit Casting Director got fired from the production on Monday. One hopeful performer said the director told her her skin was too dark to appear in the films. Apparently the casting director was never told to enforce such limitations and was acting under his own discretion. [The New York Times]
