PLUG: Best for Film

Hello!

At Best For Film we’ve just launched a writing competition for bloggers, and we’d really appreciate it if we could wangle a LAMB plug!

So, details:

Hollywood Haikus – reviewing a film in 17 syllables.

We’re aware that with the entire of cyberspace to fill up, reviewers can get rather carried away with their analysis of the latest releases. That’s why we’re launching Hollywood Haikus – a writing competition that challenges bloggers to review a film of their choice in a haiku – 3 lines made up of 5 syllables, 7 syllables and a final 5 syllables. The writer of our favourite poem will win a blu-ray player with £140, and pride of place on the Best For Film site. 10 runners up will get displayed on-site, and publicity for their blogs. Closing date is the 20th May, and we’ll announce the winners on the 30th May.

More info and how to enter here: http://bestforfilm.com/film-blog/competition-hollywood-haikus/

Let me know if you need any more info, and thanks for your consideration!

Best,

Tash Hodgson

Got a Press Release, something to Plug, or a Screener available for review (or some combination of the three)? Ok, don’t get all crazy about it. Just click here and give me the details (what, when, where, and a link, for starters) - I’ll handle the rest.

BEST FOR FILM LAUNCHES CHRISTMAS WRITING COMPETITION

Calling all LAMBS! We want to read your film reviews! Say you’re a LAMB blogger when entering this competition and we’ll make sure your posted entry has a link to your blog! And if you spread the word, we’ll be honoured and grateful.

Looking for a creative project over the festive season? Film website bestforfilm.com is excited to announce the launch of Write Christmas; a yuletide writing competition with a once in a lifetime first prize. Read on for more details…

THE COMPETITION

http://bestforfilm.com/community/write-christmas-competition/

The concept of Write Christmas is simple – to write a film review of the greatest Christmas film never made. With Hollywood churning out the same old Christmas tat every year, it’s difficult to see how we’ll ever get a truly brilliant NEW Christmas story on our screens. Best For Film are looking for fantastic writers to review the NEXT greatest, most ridiculous, potentially iconic Christmas film – the fact that it doesn’t actually exist yet is merely a quibble.

THE JUDGES
Our panel of esteemed judges includes:

LARUSHKA IVAN-ZADEH – Film editor of The Metro (3.5 million readers every weekday)
EMMA KENNEDY – actress (Notes on a Scandal), author, film critic for the Danny Baker show
CLEOLINDA JONES – parody film critic, author, blogger

THE PRIZES

First Prize:
- A real-life A1 poster of your made-up movie as imagined by OTM Entertain, the world-famous design team team that brought you the posters for The Hurt Locker, In The Loop, Splice and The Losers. Blimey!
- One hundred pounds to spend as you deem fit
- Publication on bestforfilm.com

Two runners up will receive:
- fifty pounds each
- Publication on bestforfilm.com

THE DETAILS
You have until the 24th December to enter, by emailing your glorious review to info@bestforfilm.com, with “Write Christmas” in the subject line.

Interested? Learn more about the judging details on the official website –

So, from a sombre review of Tim Burton’s unmade fantasy “Twas the Cheekbone before Christmas” to a brilliant write-up of Michael Bay’s never made classic “When Santa Exploded” – Best For Film wants to read the review of the best Christmas film we’ll never get to see. You’ve got until the 24th to get scribbling – the same deadline as Santa! How could it be any other way…

LAMB #675 - Best For Film

URL: http://bestforfilm.com
Site Name: Best For Film
Categories: Reviews, News, Editorials, Humor, Horror
Rating: PG-13

What is the main focus of your site?
Film and DVD reviews, Movie News and a sharply-opinion Film Blog. UK Cinema listings coming soon…

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
The blog is a joint venture with a full-time team of staff who are passionate about film.

As with cinemas in the face of bit torrent, we are aiming for a full house and vibrant discussion.

We are professionals. We are not affiliated to any venture other than our own, so we can keep our journalistic integrity high.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
We far, far prefer an interactive community. Let us say a person either likes or dislikes Inception. They may be passionate and vociferous in their views. So long as they can explain WHY they hold to their opinion, everyone learns whether they personally can trust that person as a critic or not.

In a good way, everyone’s a critic! We don’t care what view a community holds. We care only that they can communicate why they hold it. That way, everyone’s a sure-fire winner.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
The site has been active since January 2010. Readers get multiple daily posts.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
I have many favourites, here are three of them:
Bladerunner
Full Metal Jacket (the first half)
Fargo

How did you hear about the LAMB?
Personally? I had the good fortune to have CS as my very first and therefore most preciousssss follower. His profile showed a link to LAMB - and here I am! It is my regret I had not heard of you guys sooner :)

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that’s not listed above.
Q: When you put your other hat on, you’re the editor of a popular teenage feminist website. Do you think more feminist issues should be addressed in movies?

A: No, no I don’t. Good heavens, no! I think more humanist issues should be addressed in movies. And also movies should always aim to have fleshed-out, morally complex characters, be they male or female.

Except, of course, in the kind of movie where a fleshed-out character is completely inappropriate. BILL AND TED’S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE, I’m looking at you.

PRESS RELEASE: Save the UK Film Council

Hi folks, Madgestic from Best For Films here.

As UK and perhaps worldwide film lovers will know, the UK Film Council is about to be scrapped. This isn’t great news, to be honest. Naysayers will say that it only helped produce a few good movies like Gosford Park anyway. That said, many of us are pretty steamed up about it and want to save the UK Film Council if we can.

Yes, there’ll still be funding dribbling in for film makers from here and there. But without a Council to form an umbrella over the funding and spending cuts being made in the UK left right and centre, we’re worried that the British film industry will be sidelined. Up and coming directors could stop getting the love they deserve. And they deserve so, so much love.

You can find out more about the UK Film Council being scrapped here: http://bestforfilm.com/film-news/uk-film-council-to-be-scrapped/

And if you feel as strongly as us it would be so great if you could sign this petition here: http://tinyurl.com/saveukfilm

Nearly 4,500 signatures so far (that’s in 1 day) and we’ll definitely be taking it further!

Thanks and take care,

Madgestic
