PLUG: Cinexcellence

Hi, I’m hosting a new contest on Cinexcellence.

I’ve always enjoyed movie trivia games, like SceneIt?, Pass The Popcorn, etc.

Along that same vein I’ve created UnScene, where characters are removed from the frame and the readers have to guess what movie the frame is from.

Three new frames will be put up each Thursday, and everyone has one week to submit their guesses in the comment section on a first-come-first serve basis (i.e. If you guess correctly first, you’re the winner).

At the end of a month, the person with the most points will be the overall winner and will be rewarded a DVD from my personal collection.

The first entry can be found here: http://www.cinexcellence.com/?p=828

Got a Press Release, something to Plug, or a Screener available for review (or some combination of the three)? Ok, don’t get all crazy about it. Just click here and give me the details (what, when, where, and a link, for starters) - I’ll handle the rest.

The LAMB Devours the Oscars - Best Sound Editing (redux)

Editor’s note: Welcome to the eighth of a 24-part series dissecting the 81st Academy Awards, brought to you by the Large Association of Movie Blogs and its assorted members. Every day leading up to the Oscars, a new post written by a different LAMB will be published, each covering a different category of the Oscars. To read any other posts regarding this event, please click the tag following the post. Thank you, and enjoy!

By Joseph from Cinexcellence

Although less thrilling than the other awards, Best Achievement in Sound Editing usually falls under the cracks of the surrounding “Oscar Buzz.” But this year I’m more excited about the award than in previous years. Maybe it’s because most of the nominations deserve the acclaim*, or maybe it’s because it has less subs than the other categories (I’m looking at YOU, Original Song).

That being said, we’ve got some decent competition this year. Here’s the breakdown:

(Pictured l-r: Burrt, Wood, Statemen, Boyes)

Richard King (The Dark Knight)
1 Oscar.

Frank E. Eulner & Christopher Boyes (Iron Man)
4 Oscars and 5 Nominations for Boyes.

Tom Sayers (Slumdog Millionaire)

Ben Burtt & Matthew Wood (WALL*E)
2 Special Achievement Awards, 3 Oscars, and 5 Nominations for Burtt.
1 Nomination for Wood.

Wylie Stateman (Wanted)
3 Nominations.

In terms of previous Academy Awards, Tom Sayers is in the lead, and a definite hopeful this year. But in terms of quality work, Ben Burtt & Matthew Wood deserve every sound award they can get their hands on. (Just watch Building Worlds from the Sound Up on the WALL*E DVD if you don’t believe me.)

*Aside from Wanted, that is.

Today’s Plugs

* Evil on Two Legs is giving away some free stuff in their “name-that-movie-super-amazing-fun-time contest.” Basically that boils down to them giving away a free copy of Clive Barker’s Jericho (xbox360) and a eo2l t-shirt (or mousepad, or coffee mug, or whatever the winner would like) to whomever can name all the movies in the 18 screenshots listed.

* It’s almost over, but Joseph Demme is hosting the Unseen DVD Blog-a-Thon over at Cinexcellence. Click the link for more details.

* For August, the Movie Fanatic will be doing a blog-a-thon of sorts that involve reviews and news about selected French movies with emphasis on actors/actresses we feature prominently at our site- Romain Duris, Clemence Poesy, Gaspard Ulliel, Louis Garrel, Malik Zidi and Ludivine Sagnier.

With special focus also on the movies of Francois Ozon.

* Starting August 11th and going through August 20th, Invasion of the B Movies will be hosting a guilty pleasures blog-a-thon, about those movies that most of society deem unworthy, stupid, or whatever, but DAMMIT you can’t help but love.

If anybody wishes to participate, just list 10 guilty pleasures on your blog and send Jason a link email (invasionofthebmovies at gmail dot com).

Got something to plug? An upcoming blog-a-thon, an independent film or a film festival in your area that’s looking for exposure? Send me the details (please keep it short) and I’ll include it as part of this semi-regular feature.

LAMB #86 - Cinexcellence

URL: http://striderdemme.wordpress.com/

Site Name: Cinexcellence

What is the main focus of your site (reviews, editorials, news, lists, etc.)?
The main content of my site is film reviews and news, but I’ll occasionally post about my personal life from time to time. Whatever I feel like posting is what goes up. :-)

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
It’s mainly a productive outlet for my love of films. Being a professional film critic has a certain allure, but that probably won’t happen.

Do you prefer an interactive ‘community’ for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Both, really. I am, of course, the one that posts the content of the site, but I welcome comments and feedback.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I try posting at least once a week, sometimes more. I’ve been blogging since 2005 on Xanga. I also run a Star Wars blog (http://expanded-universe.com), but haven’t done much with it lately. Cinexcellence is pretty new, though. I started it up in two months ago and am loving it.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Star Wars
Taxi Driver
Three Colors: Blue

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I believe it was through http://www.rowthree.com.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that’s not listed above.
None.
