Director’s Chair #5 — Day Three

A classic western portrait of Clint Eastwood. Here we are together to review the third and final day of a three-part installment of our Director’s Chair series. Over the course of his fifty-five years of working in the film industry, he has left quite a legacy behind him. He is still going strong and working hard as he is hovering around the age of eighty years old. This fact speaks loud and clear to us that he is a determined old man to work himself right to the very end. On the first day of the series, we covered the broad overview of his career as well as brief glimpse upon the western genre that jump-started his claim to fame. Then on the second day, we moved toward the more dramatic films that he has directed in the more recent years. And now for the last day of the series I would like to cover a couple of films that he has directed in which we are expected to reflect upon our past history of international affairs as well as the affairs of our own neighborhood. I am referring to two of his films about World War II as well as a particular film about growing old.

On a side note, there are a couple of extra articles left over. I was unable to match them up cleanly with any of the other categories without the appearance of the articles sticking out like a sore thumb. Therefore, I would like to offer a minor “free for all” section by listing the remaining submissions below for your enjoyment to read.

Please, do not forget that if you have not taken the opportunity to participate in the discussion for future candidates of the Director’s Chair series then please visit the official message thread for this series by following this link here to the LAMBs Forum. If you have any comments, complaints, or suggestions on improving the series itself then you may drop a line over at the message forum or send an e-mail to the series facilitator at mattehavoc@gmail.com. I hope that the announcement of the candidate for the sixth installment of the Director’s Chair series will be announced soon. Please stay tuned to the LAMBs site for more information.

Director’s Chair #5 — Day Two

A classic western portrait of Clint Eastwood. For those of you who have not read the posted article from the first day of our three-day series may want to visit this link to catch up on what you may have missed. However, for the rest of us there is a new set of interesting film reviews for today. Hurray! During his career as a director, Clint Eastwood has shown quite a wide diversity with the topics that he has selected for the stories within his films. In the first day of the series, we observed two of the western films that he has directed. Today we will be jumping ahead a little bit to have a look at four of his other films that range in time from the late 1920s to the present day. Two of these films are stories about competitive sports, whereas the other two films observe the emotional pain that a parent would experience after losing a child. The topic of competitive sports does not easily fit with the emotional loss of a child, but it goes to show you that Clint Eastwood is willing to accept just about any challenge of storytelling.

Director’s Chair #5 — Day One

A classic western portrait of Clint Eastwood.Clinton Eastwood, Jr. was born on May 31, 1930 in the city of San Francisco, California. Accredited with two Oscar awards and four nominations for the award it is interesting to know that he has earned quite a bit of positive recognition for his dual roles as a director and an actor. There holds a particular image of him wearing a cowboy outfit or wandering through the streets of San Francisco while holstering .44 Magnum gun is something that a lot of us can easily conjure up in our minds when we hear the name of Clint Eastwood. During the course of his career in the business of Hollywood filmmaking (an astounding fifty-five years), he has established the image of the disgruntled tough person with a chip on his shoulder. Personally, it would be difficult for me to imagine him now as the figure of a happy grandfather. He is a person of intimidating stature that goes all the way back to childhood. According to various reports, he was a large baby who weighed over ten pounds when he was born and now as a full-grown adult he stands at a reasonably tall height of six feet and two inches.

Moving a step beyond the image that we may have of his demeanor there resides the work that he has done over the course of his career. In the first of three days worth of the current Director’s Chair event, I would like to cover two introductory topics of his work. First, there will be a couple of editorials covering his entire career. The second item to appear for today will be a listing of several reviews for two of the western films that he had directed.

Make sure to return tomorrow for the second part of the three-day directorial event. We will be taking a closer look at the sports films that Mr. Eastwood has directed in addition to a couple of his films that have garnered award winning recognition for the strong acting performances by the leading actors. Last Call for Director’s Chair #5

Large Association of Movie BlogsNow is the time for the last call. If you have not yet sent in a link to your articles for the LAMBs in the Director’s Chair event with Clint Eastwood then you are quickly running out of time. The deadline is tonight at 10 PM and I will not be accepting any entries that are submitted after that time. The e-mail address to submit your articles is mattehavoc@gmail.com and make sure to clearly list the subject line for “Director’s Chair #5″ so that I may not accidentally overlook it. I hope that the posting for the first day will be live on the LAMBs site around 12 PM in California time. In addition, I am in need of your suggestions and concerns for future Director’s Chair events. If you have not yet visited the message forum for the series then jump on over to this thread here and have a peek for yourself. Within the message thread, you will be able to check out the ongoing conversation filled with announcements and discussions about possible candidates for the series. I always try to throw out suggestions and ideas in that thread, but lately the feedback has been sparse. For those who have already sent in a link to your article (or articles if you have many of them) I would like to say a huge thank you for your participation! Keep up the great work everyone.

Director’s Chair #5 is Three Days Away!

Large Association of Movie BlogsShocking and surprising to consider that we are merely three days away from the fifth installment of The LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series. The focus of the current installment will star the cowboy director himself — Clint Eastwood! For those who are new to the LAMBs site I would like to offer a reminder about the rules of the event. Please visit the original announcement post for event number five by visiting this link here. Promotional banners can be retrieved from the original post if you would like to offer a listing on your website to promote the event. Remember that there are two important rules for participation: (a) every participating blog must be an active member already listed in the LAMB directory, and (b) the deadline for all articles to be submitted is this Sunday night (January 17, 2010) at 10 PM (local time). Is your review or editorial already live on your website? Then feel free to e-mail the direct link to me at mattehavoc@gmail.com as soon as possible. Multiple submissions are allowed and strongly encouraged! Also, I have already selected the prime candidate for installment number six and should be making an announcement of who the person is not too long after we finish wrapping up the current installment next Wednesday. Good luck to everyone in submitting your articles and I hope you will enjoy what there is in store for you to read!

Director’s Chair #5 is One Week Away

Large Association of Movie BlogsHe’ll be coming around the mountain when he comes. Yee haw! Can you believe how fast the time flies by? We are already one week away from the fifth installment of The LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series which will star the cowboy director himself — Clint Eastwood! When his name was first suggested for this series I was hearing a lot of positive feedback from several LAMB members about participating in the event and I am looking forward to a huge turn out. At this point I have received a good handful of entries for the event, but there is plenty of room available for more participants for the three day event. I would not want to see anyone left behind. If there is anyone out there planning on spending the next week to watch his directorial films (see here for the list of director credits) make sure you have the links to your articles sent in to me by Sunday night for inclusion in the event!

Poll results; new poll

For our last poll, we latched on to Cut. Print. Review.’s favorite movie posters of 2009. Their choice for the best was an alternate, somewhat criminally underused version of A Christmas Carol - a great poster indeed, but it wasn’t even close to the top of the heap for LAMB voters. Instead, it was somewhat of a landslide for the Basterds, who earned 30% of the vote, with the simple, graphic poster for Duncan Jones’ somewhat criminally underseen Moon coming in second with 21%.

The new poll is also a tie-in, though this time to a LAMB event: the upcoming LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series focusing on the works of director (and, oh yeah, part-time actor) Clint Eastwood. I’ve picked 10 of his works for you to choose from, from the current Invictus to a sampling of his most prestigious films. Which would you say is his best?

Director’s Chair #5 is Two Weeks Away!

Large Association of Movie BlogsHappy New Year! We are already four days in to the year of 2010 and the time is just flying by so fast. Is it true that 2010 will be the year that we make contact with space aliens? Yes, that was an extremely far fetched film reference, I know. Hopefully you can forgive me since I am only on my second cup of coffee for today. After all this is the year that there is so much time and so little to do. Wait a minute! Strike that, reverse it. Could someone stop me from making more movie references? Please!

However, with all seriousness I would like to remind everyone that we are two weeks away from the fifth installment of The LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series. You heard correctly! Beethoven will have nothing to hold against us for presenting the best fifth ever! Is there any shame for me to be moving on to writing musical references instead of listing movie quotes and referring to film titles? Anyway, the focus of this next installment is none other the disgruntled old man himself – Clint Eastwood! He has a lengthy career in Hollywood as an actor and a director. It must be observed by every participant that we will be focusing upon the films that he has directed during the course of his established career and not the films that he has been credited with just an acting role.
