PLUG: Common Sense Movie Reviews

November 26th - January 1st

Last year I decided to be a Scrooge and not watch any Christmas themed films and therefore deemed it to be a holiday season full of Hammer Horror, I thoroughly enjoyed it and got a nice response from some of my fellow Hammer fans so this year I’m bringing it back… with a twist. In an attempt to not exclude the tastes of everyone this years Hammer Holiday Marathon will span the entire Hammer catalog with reviews of two films from each decade of the film company’s existence during the periods of the 1930’s - 1970’s. So we should have a nice mixture of thrillers, horrors and noir. Below are the ten films I’ll be reviewing in the order I’ll be reviewing them, no particular reason for the choices they’re simply a selection of Hammer films I’ve been meaning to watch. Also look for more editions of the Women of Hammer feature and a few other special bonus reviews of Hammer related goodness.

Phantom Ship ‘The Mystery of the Mary Celeste’ (1935)
Song of Freedom (1936)
Dick Barton, Special Agent (1947)
The Man in Black (1949)
Bad Blonde (1953)
The Quatermass Xperiment (1955)
Sword of Sherwood Forest (1960)
The Gorgon (1963)
Creatures the World Forgot (1970)
Fear in the Night (1972)

Got a Press Release, something to Plug, or a Screener available for review (or some combination of the three)? Ok, don’t get all crazy about it. Just click here and give me the details (what, when, where, and a link, for starters) - I’ll handle the rest.

Crowetastic: 23 Days of Russell Crowe

http://www.commonsensemoviereviews.com/2010/03/crowetastic-23-days-of-russell-crowe.html

23 films of pure Crowetastic Russell Crowe in a series of roles and films where no two are alike. It’s my plan to spread out all 23 films, reviewing a couple every week until the release of Russell’s new soon to be hit Robin Hood on May 14th. Can you handle this much Crowe?

Hammer Holiday Film-a-thon

Instead of the typical December Christmas-themed reviews I’ve decided to do something a little different, something I’ve wanted to do for a while, a Hammer film-a-thon! In case you’re not familiar with Hammer, it is a British film company that produced hundreds of films between the 1930’s and the 1970’s, most notably they are recognized for their horror films. So for the next month I will be watching and reviewing as many Hammer films as I can with a few extras that showcase the popularity of the Hammer franchise. For a full list of films and reviews check out my blog entry and feel free to recommend any good films on the list for me to review!

PLUG: Common Sense Movie Reviews

I recently came across a book called 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die, my first thought was to begin watching and reviewing each film on the list, but then I thought it would be much more enjoyable to do this with other reviewers. So I’m attempting to start a club based on this list, the idea is we’d choose a film off the list and everyone would have a week or so to rent the film and review it. I think it would be fun to see everyone’s thoughts a particular film after we all finished watching it. So if you’re interested please visit Common Sense Movie Reviews and let me know you’re interested, we’ll go from there.

Thanks

LAMB #367 - Common Sense Movie Reviews

URL: http://www.commonsensemoviereviews.com/
Site Name: Common Sense Movie Reviews
Categories: Movie & TV Reviews
Rating: PG-13

What is the main focus of your site?
Main focus is the review of movies and TV shows (which for the most part are available on DVD) occasionally I’ll review a new film that is in theaters if something strikes me as really worth seeing, but most of the time I wait until its DVD release. I have no one particular genre of film; I watch and review a little bit of everything.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
These movies reviews started out as primarily a creative outlet for me, I find the creation process and the writing process relaxing and enjoyable, and that’s still the main purpose, it’s a hobby. Secondary is hopefully entertaining and informing people about movies worth renting or worth saying away from.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Definitely interactive, I always appreciate comments, discussions and even disagreements as long as it’s kept civil, if you’re going to start cursing me out because my opinions don’t bother commenting!

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
My first movie review was back in February of 2005 on Rotten Tomatoes, and I enjoyed posting there for about 3 years until they began fooling around with the website and ruined the journal section, even prior to the current makeover the journal section had become a pain, so I started my own site in July of 2008 and have continued on. Over the last few months I’ve tried to post daily, sometimes two posts a day, but that fluctuates so I would say I post a minimum of 4-5 times a week.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Cinderella Man, A Beautiful Mind, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

How did you hear about the LAMB?
From a fellow blogger friend.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that’s not listed above.
Some additional info on my site, I try to do more than just simple movie reviews, I also have in-depth reviews of all the Bond films (currently in the process of re-posting those from Rotten Tomatoes) and I spotlight some of my favorite actresses in a section I call The Answer’s Angels (also currently in the process of transferring over.) Also looking it restart the section I had at Rotten Tomatoes called Request a Review, where readers would choose what film I would review next, and a few other things I might be bringing back that keep the site fresh and unique.
