LAMBcast #37

The usual pattern for our Whatcha Been Watchin’ Lately? episodes gets disrupted this time out, not only by the ghost inhabiting Heather’s computer, but by long discussions of each flick, resulting in just one flick discussed per podcaster. And it’s some weird shit, indeed (well, at least Jason’s). Also in on it were Dylan, Nick, and Kai. Also on tap:

* Plugs/Listener Feedback
* LAMB of the Week: Detailed Criticisms
* Trailer Talk127 Hours
* Last LAMB Standing (x2)

Music by Kevin MacLeod (http://incompetech.com).

For the LAMB of the Week, we take a detailed look at Sebastian Gutierrez’s soon-to-be-retitled Detailed Criticisms:

If you’d like your site to be a future LAMB of the Week, hit me up via email and I’ll add you to the queue.

If you’re interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums. Music provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod’s Incompetech website. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service. The LAMBcast loves feedback, too. Either here in the comments section or to blogcabins@yahoo.com or to our Facebook page. Also, we’re on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it’s a bad one.

Thanks for listening!

LAMBcast #33

Before we get to this episode, a minor rant. You’ll pardon me if I sound like a whining ninny, but what the heck, man? I know for a fact that more than just the (getting long) list of people that have recorded a LAMBcast are listening to it, and yet with each new episode, the comments seem to evaporate more and more. So, if you’re listening, and you love, hate, are indifferent, or just have some general feedback, let’s hear it, either here or sent to blogcabins@yahoo.com! We’re dancing like monkeys and barely getting a nickel to show for it. End rant - thank you.

Their mission, should they choose to accept it (they did): Bring a random Top 5 to the recording of LAMBcast #33. Note to self: do this again soon sometime, and be sure that you’re there for the recording. In other words, some great lists here, not only in the movies that were chosen, but in the lists that these five guys came up with. They were a bit psyched for it, so it took a bit longer than usual (1 hr 23 mins), but I think it’s worth it. In on the fun were Nick, Jason, James, Kai, and, in his first time hosting (be gentle), Sebastian.

The lists were then topped off with two surprising games of LLS games and some Trailer Talk about Sucker Punch and Monsters.

As usual, the music, as provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod’s Incompetech website, is the bomb. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service.

Also, we’re still on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it’s a bad one. Thanks for listening!

FYI: I started a dedicated Facebook page for the LAMBcast. I’ll still post something here when a new episode is released, but if you’re looking for a central place for commentary, suggestions, complaints, etc., go here.

LAMBcast #32

You want over-analysis? You got it, friend. Nick, Tom, Rachel, Sebastian and myself gathered to take the trip down the rabbit hole that is Inception, engaging in a discussion full of spoilers (FULL OF SPOILERS) about Chris Nolan’s latest mind-bender. We talk theories, strengths, weaknesses, and just where the most-discussed film of 2010 ranks amongst the Dark Knight director’s best works? Detractors, prepared to be annoyed.

Despite the lengthy discussion, we still squeezed in some time for a pair of LLS games and some Trailer Talk about The Town and Faster.

PLUG: Detailed Criticisms

Spreading the JGL Love

Hey all. Sebastian from Detailed Criticisms here. Here’s the deal. I’m going to be taking part in a little quest over the next few days, and I would love if all you crazy people would take part. Now that everyone and their dog has seen Inception, the whole world is finally aware of what sort of mad genius Joseph Gordon-Levitt is. So, in honor of this tremendous occasion, I’m blasting through a good amount of the films that he’s been a part of, and ending with a write up of the man in general.

This is where you come in. If you have reviews of the films he’s been in or write ups of the man, send them my way, and you’ll be greatly represented. So, if you have anything of that nature or want to write something new, send a link to sebguts10@yahoo.com.

Thanks all! Looking forward to seeing what y’all come up with!

Got a Press Release, something to Plug, or a Screener available for review (or some combination of the three)? Ok, don’t get all crazy about it. Just click here and give me the details (what, when, where, and a link, for starters) - I’ll handle the rest.

LAMBcast #30

Part 2 of 2. Host Tom Clift leads a round table discussion on Pixar: thoughts on the company’s place in Hollywood, a look at what’s next for them, and a rundown of each of their 11 feature films, culminating with an extended review of their latest critical and commercial hit, Toy Story 3.

In fact, the proceedings, which also included Sebastian Gutierrez, Dylan Fields, and LAMBcast first-timer Jess Rogers, was such an epic that we had to bust it into two episodes, which also means no LLS or Trailer Talk this time out, but I think we more than made up for it.

Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering #39: Detailed Criticisms

It’s Blusterin’ Time!

And remember: Blustering should be a two-way street; if you’ve asked to be blustered, you better be a blusterer.

If you’re new to this feature or need a refresher, click the label at the bottom of this post and see the first few posts. Otherwise, here’s the basics:

What I’ll do is list a site; you’re asked to critique it. But here’s the catch: to induce the most honest reactions, don’t leave the comment using your normal alias/login - instead, go anonymous, and be as brutally honest (or complimentary) as you wish to be. Also, be specific, and naturally, don’t be rude. If I deem anything inappropriate, I’ll have no problem deleting the comment.

So, go to the site listed below, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes, then come back and leave some constructive criticism and/or comments that you have.

Site: Detailed Criticisms
LAMB#: 450
URL: http://detailedcriticisms.blogspot.com//

If you’re up for this treatment for your site (and you’re a LAMB), send me an email with the subject “Bluster Me!” If you’ve already done so, no need to do it again - you’re on the list, and these will be going up in order of when I received your email (by the way, it could take a while for your site to be Blustered, since I don’t run this more than once a week or so).

LAMBcast #28

The dog days, indeed.

This summer has, for the most part, stunk up the joint at the theater. Audiences globally just aren’t buying what a couple of Killers and some mangled guy named Jonah Hex are selling them, and they’ve clearly had it with those SATC gals.

What went wrong? What’s the main culprit for the lackluster summer? And is there a prescription for our ills? More bluntly, will Inception and/or Scott Pilgrim save the day?

Trying to get a grip on all this and more were Nick Jobe, Jason Soto, Sebastian Gutierrez, and another noob (yay!), Branden Renfro of Foolish Blatherings. And of course, we top off the feature discussion with a handful of LLS, and one of the most engaging Trailer Talks we’ve had yet, all over…The Green Hornet?

What makes a good comedy? What makes one flop? What makes P.uff(y) D(a)iddy funny? What kind of future lies in store for Russell Brand, and just who in the hell was that hilarious young lady playing his ex-wife in Get Him to the Greek?

A review of GHTTG, along with all these questions and more are answered (or not) in the latest episode of the LAMBcast, which thankfully went off without a hitch. On hand for the silliness was: Nick, Marshall, a new noob in the form of Sebastian Gutierrez of Detailed Criticisms, and myself.

For Your Consideration: The Cultural Post, Four of Them, Detailed Criticisms, and Journalistic Skepticism

Hey you! Send me an FYC image and I will put it up! I don’t care if I get one from 50 sites, I’ll find a way to get them all up, and as soon as possible (the nomination voting period only lasts until May 12th!). When you’re ready to vote, do it here: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/482056

[Editor’s Note: I’d really have preferred to give everyone their own post, but I’m quickly realizing that with loads of new LAMBs waiting to be posted, 40+ FYCs, all our other features, and less than 12 days until the voting ends, I’m just not going to be able to. So you’re getting four-packs of FYCs from here on out. I hope no one thinks this unfair - better this than the ads not being posted until after the voting is over.]

FYC #18 is for LAMB #206, The Cultural Post.

FYC #19 is for LAMB #512, Four of Them.

FYC #20 is for LAMB #450, Detailed Criticisms.

FYC #21 is for LAMB #428, Journalistic Skepticism.
