To see the previous award winners, click here.

Best Reviewer
50 votes for this award (I’m phasing out this tidbit of info, as all awards were between 49 and 56 votes - not exactly a wide range), though this was another tight, tight race.

3rd place: Radiator Heaven (9 votes)

Runner-up: Only the Cinema (12 votes)

And the winner, with 13 votes (26%!) is…

Congratulations! LAMMY Banners will be emailed to the winners and runner-ups after all the awards have been presented.

The winner of the 2008 LAMMY for Most Ambitious is…

If it seems I don’t have as much to say about this category, well, that’s by design. I left the criteria (not as though there’s all that much for the other categories) open to your interpretation. Simply put, I asked “Who’s shooting for the moon?” This was the 9th most active category, with 59 total votes spread to 27 sites by 29 voters. The winner took the trophy while receiving a vote from 31% of the voters, the 9th highest percentage of all the categories.

The envelope please…

3rd place (tie): the Movie Fanatic (4 votes)

3rd place (tie): The Flick Chick (4 votes)

2nd place: Blog Cabins (6 votes)

And the winner, with 9 votes is…

LAMB Chops (4/6 - 4/12)

Mmmm…tasty. Click on the banner to go to the Chop:

MovieZeal gives their review of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. Submitted by MovieZeal:

“The film’s blistering power is owed almost entirely to the fact that it avoids politicizing one of the most hot-button issues in the world today.”

Photobucket

Fataculture rants against the MPAA (every fanboy’s favorite whipping post). Submitted by MovieZeal:

“In addition, all you anti-smoking lobbyists; people who do not want to smoke, do not and those who do, do. Not as if any of you are making the tiniest spec of difference. So stop wasting your time and get your nicotine-stain free hands off my goddamn cinema.”

Photobucket

Coosa Creek Mambo wonders what’s happened to all the good Asian cinema. Submitted by MovieZeal:

“Maybe it’s time to admit that free-market capitalism doesn’t work for art any more than it works for health care or air travel or any number of other things . . . what about subsidizing art theaters like communities do art galleries?”

Photobucket

Random Ramblings of a Demented Doorknob takes an in-depth look at Spirited Away. Submitted by R2D2:

“Believe it or not, Anime as we know it began because of Walt Disney. Japanese animators were impressed with the style of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, so they decided to try and mimic the style.”

Photobucket

The Center Seat is pissed off and wants you to know about it. Submitted by The Center Seat:

“The only thing I can think of is to raise awareness. So I guess that’s what I’m trying to do. Watch the doc if you get HBO… if you don’t, research the problem”

Photobucket

Finally, Tractor Facts was unimpressed by Borderland. Submitted by Tractor Facts:

“Unlike the recent set-in-Mexico gore film, The Ruins, you won’t take nary a cheap gooey thrill from Borderland. Its not just punishing in its trauma scenes, but in the exposition that sleeps in between the blood lust.”

LAMB #41 - Fataculture

URL: http://fataculture.wordpress.com/

Site Name: Fataculture

What is the main focus of your site (reviews, editorials, news, lists, etc.)?
Mainly film reviews, but also editorials and lists of awards (precursors) given out during the Oscar season.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I would like to hone my writing skills and hopefully get into film journalism and screenwriting someday. I am only 16 and have a long way to go, and blogging about film is a great way to stay out of trouble, interact with other film lovers and share in the pleasure of cinematic worship.

Do you prefer an interactive ‘community’ for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Not answered.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I started blogging in June 2007, but had to leave blogging for a while due to school getting overwhelming, but I started again, this time more seriously, in November 2007. I manage to post at least one post per day, but some days I post nothing because of other commitments. I usually update it daily, with the occasional break, not for longer than a day.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Babel and Amelie.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I found out about LAMB upon clicking on a very interesting looking image of a sheep on a blog I love to visit. I have been meaning to apply for membership at LAMB for a while now, and for some reason it had slipped my mind, until now.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that’s not listed above.
None.
