Trailer Talk Thursday: Larry Crowne and Friends With Benefits

Hey everybody, Travis of The Movie Encyclopedia here with another edition of Trailer Talk Thursday where I bring you the latest trailers to hit the silver screen.
When I went searching for trailers this week, not a ton showed up. There were some interesting ones, like the Super 8 trailer, the Conan the Barbarian trailer and the “Flynn Lives” Tron short film originally dubbed a teaser for Tron 3 (or at least on Trailer Addict). The thing is though if you go looking through the list of LAMBs, a couple dozen of them have probably already covered the aforementioned trailers. So I waited a few days and today two trailers popped up that sparked my interest. The first is a Tom Hanks movie written, directed and starring him. The other film is Friends With Benefits, the other casual sex/dating film to star a lead from Black Swan.
First up is Larry Crowne-

Larry Crowne is a simple man. Not Forrest Gump simple but overly optimistic always look on the bright side of life simple (think Kenneth from 30 Rock). Larry was a team leader at your typical department style store and won multiple employee of the month awards. But thanks to the economy and downsizing, Larry, despite all of his accolades, was let go. Why? Because apparently he never finished college. So Larry goes back to school to not only finish, but to also make something better of himself. He takes a class from Mercedes Tainot, a downtrodden teacher who has lost the will to teach, partially because only the bare minimum show up but also because of her failed marriage. But as soon as Larry opens his mouth, things start to turn around.

Here is the trailer:

It looks like a sweet movie. I mean I’ve always been a fan of Hanks and Roberts and this seems like a Terminal/Gump esque kind of film that will be as charming as it is heartwarming. Looks like we’ll just have to wait and see.

Next up is Friends With Benefits-

I swear I’ve seen this movie before. A couple of friends start having casual sex and it ultimately leads to them falling in love, despite them both trying not to. I think it starred someone from Black Swan as well…Ah whatever. FWB stars Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake as Jamie and Dylan, two best friends who, after their significant other breaks up with them (Andy Samberg and Emma Stone) decide to start having sex, not because they love each other but just for fun: Friends With Benefits. But as we all know, that can’t last for long.

Here is the trailer:

I’m slightly wary of the film, not because it doesn’t look funny but because No Strings Attached already came out. Granted FWB has more recognizable comedy stars (Kunis, Stone, Samberg, Timberlake, Woody Harrelson, Richard Jenkins, Patricia Clarkson) and I laughed a little harder at some of the jokes in this trailer (more in the red band one) but when you have two similar films come out so close to each other it gets a little like Deja Vu and I’m putting this on my wait and see. If anything, cautiously optimistic.

But these are just my opinions. Tell me your opinions in  the comments below and I will see you all next week on Trailer Talk Thursday.
