2011 LAMMY FYC Poster - Movie Mobsters and Filmicability with Dean Treadway

These are the last FYCs I’ve received in a few days. If you would still like to submit one, you have until Sunday. And don’t forget to vote!

LAMBcast #37

The usual pattern for our Whatcha Been Watchin’ Lately? episodes gets disrupted this time out, not only by the ghost inhabiting Heather’s computer, but by long discussions of each flick, resulting in just one flick discussed per podcaster. And it’s some weird shit, indeed (well, at least Jason’s). Also in on it were Dylan, Nick, and Kai. Also on tap:

* Plugs/Listener Feedback
* LAMB of the Week: Detailed Criticisms
* Trailer Talk127 Hours
* Last LAMB Standing (x2)

Music by Kevin MacLeod (http://incompetech.com).

For the LAMB of the Week, we take a detailed look at Sebastian Gutierrez’s soon-to-be-retitled Detailed Criticisms:

If you’d like your site to be a future LAMB of the Week, hit me up via email and I’ll add you to the queue.

If you’re interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums. Music provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod’s Incompetech website. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service. The LAMBcast loves feedback, too. Either here in the comments section or to blogcabins@yahoo.com or to our Facebook page. Also, we’re on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it’s a bad one.

Thanks for listening!

LAMBcast #36

For the 36th episode of the LAMBcast, we take on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and break it down at least seven different ways. What worked, what didn’t, favorite fights, lines, and general gushing from Nick, who has named it his new favorite movie ever…at least until Machete comes out (kidding, Nick). Joining him were Tom, James, and me. That’s followed up by the usual Trailer Talk (Black Swan, I’m Still Here) and Last LAMB Standing, but also by the latest segment on the LAMBcast, the LAMB of the Week, which is more or less an audio, non-anonymous version of Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering.

For the inaugural edition, Heather of Movie Mobsters put her site’s neck on the line, and we tore it to shreds gave it our best mix of compliments and constructive criticism.

PLUG: Groovers and Mobsters Present

Following the success of Groovers and Mobsters Present: gangster movies last month Heather and myself have decided to make it a monthly event. June and July are already underway but after that we will need three or four bloggers each month to join in.

Anyone who is interested in joining in email me (Andy) at fandangogroovers@gmail.com Let me know the category/type/genre of movie you would like participate in and three movies you would like to write about in order of preference. I will then email back and let you know your allocated movie and when we publish. Simple as that.

These are the sub-genres we are thinking of blogging about. Only the Christmas one is decided upon so far so feel free to suggest something not on the list.:

High School Movies
Westerns
Time Travel
Music Movies (not musicales)
Vampires
Dystopian future
Alliterative Christmas Movies

Feel free to put yourself up in multiple categories if they interest you. And finally be sure to check out the June Groovers and Mobsters Present: going live on Saturday June 12.

Got a Press Release, something to Plug, or a Screener available for review (or some combination of the three)? Ok, don’t get all crazy about it. Just click here and give me the details (what, when, where, and a link, for starters) - I’ll handle the rest.

Holiday Movieathon!

This month we are going to skip an actual review star and have a Christmas/Holiday Blogathon. In the spirit of the holidays, we’ll watch and review anything seasonally related by request or otherwise so just let us know. Also, remember to vote on the poll posted in the margin. We’ll reveal the results at the end of December, probably the 25th or 26th. The poll was also posted on Facebook at Poll Daddy and there has been a considerable amount of votes there! Sometime in the next week we will also be posting our holiday contest where someone can win one or maybe two DVDs. The details will be available shortly. Movie Mobsters is going all out for this holiday season and we hope you do too! Be sure to visit and read all of our Holiday Season Review Tributes!

Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering #3: Movie Mobsters

If you’re a member or have gone to any number of blog directories (i.e. BlogCatalog), you can’t help but notice the opportunity to rate anyone’s site. Be it out of 5 or 10 stars, everybody wants to be rated, and everybody wants the top score. Additionally, you might find threads in a Community section with individuals asking for or offering to give blog reviews. Some of these are beneficial; many are not.

What none of them really are is from their peers, and certainly not from people who just might visit that particular site on a regular basis. Which led me to thinking that maybe we could provide this service to each other. What I’ll do is list a site; all you’re asked to do, should you wish to, is critique it. But here’s the catch: to hopefully induce the most honest reactions, I’m asking that you don’t leave the comment using your normal alias/login - instead, go anonymous, and be as brutally honest (or complimentary) as you wish to be. Also, be specific, and naturally, don’t be rude. If I deem anything inappropriate, I’ll have no problem deleting the comment.

So, whether you’re a loyal reader or a never-reader, go to the site listed below, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes (if need be), then come back and leave whatever constructive criticism and/or comments that you have. It could be about anything: the design, widgets, content, features, name - you name it. Bottom line: how could this site be made better (if possible)?

Site: Movie Mobsters
LAMB#: 312
URL: http://www.moviemobsters.com/

If you’re up for this treatment for your site, send me an email with the subject “Bluster Me!” If you’ve already done so, no need to do it again - you’re on the list, and these will be going up in order of when I received your email.

LAMB #312 - Movie Mobsters

URL: http://roddysrockinreviews.wordpress.com/
Site Name: Movie Mobsters
Categories: Reviews from 1950-Present Date, Top Ten Lists, Polls, Actor and Actress Highlights, Best and Worst of The Week, and General film entertainment
Rating: PG

What is the main focus of your site?
To entertain. When I started building the site I asked myself as a movie fan what I would want on a site if I were to visit it everyday. I structured the site around that ideal, making it inviting to readers, user friendly, interactive, and reviews that don’t spoil the movies, but give a perspective that explores all aspects of what I enjoyed or disliked about the movie. I also have added a large data base of classic films. A lot of people don’t watch older movies, and here was a great way to turn somebody on to a great movie they might not have seen that came out twenty-five or thirty years ago.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
Personally, I just enjoy sharing and talking about movies. It’s something I’ve always been passionate about. Writing is also something that I’ve always been passionate about. Together the two are peas and carrots. Professionally, I’ve wandered down that path and briefly wrote professionally. It’s something I keep in mind for the future, but for the time being I’m enjoying having complete creative freedom to make the site what I want.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
By all means this is geared to be interactive. I may have knowledge others don’t and vice versa. At the end of the day, it is based mostly on opinions. This is all about people interacting.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I’ve been blogging for over a year and generally update the site on a daily basis. I try to have at least one review a day or some new information to share.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Aliens
Se7en
Terminator 2: Judgement Day

How did you hear about the LAMB?
The Film Reel.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that’s not listed above.
My goal is to just further this positive experience I’m already living and take it to yet another level. I’m ready to share it with others and have others share it with me.
