For those of you who do watch horror films enough to have a preferred decade, that decade is the ’80s, with the ’70s not far behind. And silly me thought the ’70s would easily come out on top. Then again, I’m also part of the 23% that don’t watch enough horror films to know any better.

With the holiday season on our doorstep, I want to know how many dvds/Blu-Rays typically end up on the wishlist you’ll pass out to anyone who even hints at buying you a gift. Do you want to add just a title or two to the shelve, or do you want to clean out the video section of your local electronics store?

How very insightful these latest poll results were. Aside from the majority who admitted to not listening to the LAMBcast, all recurring features found equal amounts of love. Make of that what you will.

With Halloween less than two weeks away, I wanna know: What is your favorite decade for horror films?

Out of the 25 titles listed in the last poll (several of which have now been released), Drive was the clear favorite upcoming fall/winter film with 17% of the vote. I hope it lived up to all the anticipation for those who have seen it. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (12%) and the American remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (11%) were the only other films to even get double digit votes.

So let’s talk about the LAMBcast. Over the past year, several recurring general discussion topics have emerged. Which is your favorite?

It looks like those without Netflix think the rest of us are a bunch of crybabies about the recent price changes. Most of us with Netflix are okay with the price changes and plan on keeping both the dvd and streaming options, while some will choose to drop one or the other. Almost nobody is going to give it the boot altogether.

In time to coincide with the latest LAMBcast episode, I want to know what fall/winter release you’re looking forward to the most. I narrowed the choices down to 25 for the poll (which was almost impossible), but if your pick isn’t listed please let me know in the comments.

It seems most of us take scores from sites like Rotten Tomatoes into consideration for what films to watch, but they’re not the absolute deciding factor, which is what I assumed. I was surprised at the 27% who ignore them completely.

Next, I want to know what your thoughts are on the recent Netflix price change. It seems to be a mixed bag of anger and apathy. What say you? Will you be keeping with Netflix all the way, dropping one of the options, or quitting altogether?

It looks like enough of us are interested in a dvd swap to take it under consideration as a new LAMB feature. I’ll start planning on a system and details, but if anyone has any ideas or would like to head this up, please let me know in the comments or by email.

This new poll was inspired by a rant on a recent episode of the LAMBcast. Just out of curiosity, what do you think about film review aggregators, such as Rotten Tomatoes? Do you find them useful or are you against them?

Well, it seems the For Your Consideration banners decorating the LAMB during the LAMMY nominations voting were very helpful, or at least entertaining, to most. We had a record-breaking 81 banners this year, up 16 from the 2010 LAMMYs. Thanks to all who sent them in and all the voters who actually took them under consideration.

And now for something new. There have been a few bloggers whom I regularly read discussing their DVD/Blu-Ray collections lately, particularly what movies they own that baffle them because they are rarely watched. A good majority of us can probably relate, as we pick up DVDs here and there for cheap or get them as gifts, watch them once, maybe twice and never touch them again.

After several of his readers listed many of their films which fall under such category, the Mad Hatter casually commented that we should all just start swapping movies with one another. I wondered if the LAMB would be a good central hub for such a project? I know there are other websites out there that host such a thing, but I thought it could be fun for our community. I haven’t hammered out any details*, because if no one wants to participate, I’m not going to put too much thought into it. So for now, all I want to know is if you are or are not interested in a LAMB community DVD swap. Vote in the poll and leave additional comments below.

[Editor’s Note: The only thing I can guarantee for sure is that the LAMB will not be responsible for lost movies or postage.]

It looks like most of us will be first in line for the final chapter of Harry Potter this summer. No real surprise there. I’m more surprised at the second place winner Super 8, since I haven’t personally heard much anticipation for. Is this our way of telling Hollywood we’re sick of comic book adaptations?

Next I’m getting back to the LAMMYs. Tell me what you think of the For Your Consideration ads that have dominated the site for the past two weeks. Have they been helpful when filling out your LAMMY ballot or a waste of space? Speaking of the LAMMYs, there are only a few days left to vote.

The results are in for the latest polls, in which I wanted to know what current LAMMY categories need to go and which ones of years past need to be brought back. With 31% of the votes, Best Random LAMB Banner has been ousted, which makes me a little sad because it is one of the easiest categories to vote in since all the banners can viewed on one page. Coming in second with 22% of the votes was Best Overall Post, which had it not been voted to go, I would’ve probably pulled executive rank and booted it anyway, because I’m under the impression from Fletch that counting up nominee votes for that category is brutal. But you guys chose wisely. Oh and to the ONE person who vote Best Blog category be retired…nice try.

As for which categories get to come out of retirement, with 47% of the votes Best Running Feature will make a triumphant return. Coming in second with a sharp decline in votes, but still with 23%, is Best Ratings System. Thank you to everyone who voted. The formal 2011 LAMMY announcement will be posted on Monday, so stay tuned.

For our new poll, I’m going to keep it simple: Which summer movie are you most anticipating? I’ve limited the options to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd seeds on Fletch’s March to Box Office Madness bracket along with the lovely “Other” option. Should you choose said “Other” option, please spill your most anticipated summer movie in the comments.

Well with 45% of the vote, we easily pre-crowned The King’s Speech as Best Picture before the Academy. Sucks to be The Fighter without a single supporter. Of course in hindsight, I realize I should’ve included a sister poll which would’ve asked which film you thought should win also. I’ll remedy that mistake next year.
Now for new polls…plural. Participation was way down in this year’s LIONs for LAMBs polls and volunteers for LAMB Devours the Oscars. So I’m just wondering why? But if you did participate in the LIONs, what did you think of the voting process? I had a Top 5 of every category (except Top 10 Films) whereas, last year Fletch only had Top 10 Films and Worst 5 Films, then listed only the first place and runner-up for everything else. Essentially, you the voters wouldn’t have had to list your top five choices in every category. So I want to know, which do you prefer.
Sound off in the comments.
