Plugs 4/1

Got a Plug? Head on over to the LAMB Forums and post it. I’m looking for special events - contests, giveaways, blog-a-thons - something you don’t normally do, but you’re doing it now and want need the world to know. Here’s the latest batch:

From FILM FOR THE SOUL:
Film for the Soul needs ewe to chronicle a decade of film.

In 8 months plus it will be 2010 and the 00’s (the naughties) will be behind us leaving in its wake 10 years of cinema.

I want to take a look at cinema from 2000 - 2009, each month focusing on a different year, obviously starting with the year 2000 and I’m looking for submissions; reviews, opinions, awards, news, anything and everything film related for each corresponding year.

I believe that not only are we looking at 10 years of cinema but also the rise of the ‘casual critic’, the blogsphere has given voice to thousands of on-line reviewers and I’m looking for as many of those differing voices as possible.

So if ewe have a review; one ewe may have already posted on your blog many years ago, or are interested in writing a new one for a film in 2000 then please get in contact. For example I’m especially interested in any review, or articles, on the following films

Gladiator (Ridley Scott)
O’ Brother Where Art Thou (Joel/Ethan Coen)
House of Mirth (Terrence Davies)
Dancer in the Dark (Lars Von Trier)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Ang Lee)
Requiem for a Dream (Darren Aronosky)
Ju-on (Takashi Shimizu)
Amores Perros (Alejandro Gonzalez Inarrittu)
Almost Famous (Cameron Crowe)
Yi Yi: A One and a Two (Edward Yang)
X-Men (Bryan Singer)
Billy Elliot (Stephen Daldry)
Traffic (Steven Soderbergh)
Girlfight (Karyn Kusama)
Nine Queens (Fabian Bielinsky)
Best in Show (Christopher Guest)

These are just ideas, if ewe have a hidden gem, for example one reviewer is covering a Japanese Anime I’ve never heard of, then don’t hesitate to get in contact.

Over the coming months I hope to build a resource of film in the 00’s, culminating with an ultimate list of the naughties greatest films at the end of the year.

Hopefully you’ll take part.

From OUT OF THE PAST:
Hey there fellow LAMBs. I’ve declared next week (3/29 to 4/4) Norma Shearer week on my blog Out of the Past ~ A Classic Film Blog. TCM is showing a lot of her films in the next upcoming months and with the new WB Archive films, 4 of her films are now available on made-to-order DVDs.

Just want to get people interested in my absolute top favorite Actress!

From INVASION OF THE B MOVIES:
This is for an upcoming blogathon of sorts that I did last year.

I declared April “30 Days of Horror” where every day in April I watched at least one horror movie. Towards the end, things didn’t go so well cause of family stuff, so hopefully this year things will go off without a hitch.

This time though, I’m asking for help. I’m writing out all the films I wanna see in that month but if anyone is willing to contribute by watching and writing a horror film on your own and I’ll do a linky thing. How I’ll do that is if ewe wanna participate, let me know what film ewe want to cover and I’ll let ewe know if I did it already or if I’m gonna do it.

Here’s the link to last years films: http://www.invasionofthebmovies.com/30dayshorror.html

I have sort of a theme going on this time, since this is the “sequel” to the first event. Betcha never guess what the theme might be.

From NOIRISH CITY:
Hi LAMB Members,

For those of ewe who(m) are interested….
My blog is “undergoing” a “format” change.
Starting April 1st….No! This Isn’t An April Fools Joke!

Oh!…She is going to write her own movie reviews? No!….I still don’t like to write, …. but what about the contests?….

*No worries,* movie contest(s) will still be offered on my blog.
And where are all these changes taking place?

….at http://noirishcity.blogspot.com/

Thanks,
Deedee (dcd)

Plugs 11/12

I know I normally have some picture of an electrical outlet or something like that to accompany the Plugs post, but when I spotted this one, I couldn’t resist using it. Please ignore the left-leaning overtone (especially if you’re right-leaning) and focus on how great it is that a lamb is telling you to vote, which coincides perfectly with the first few Plugs…

* Voter turnout for Who are LAMB? (our quick demographics survey) is currently about 30%. Please, if you haven’t yet, take two little minutes (if that) to participate. I’d really appreciate it. Last day to vote is 11/18. Here’s the link: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/362905

* While you’re over there at Mister Poll, we’ve also got another in our continuing Top 10s series going on, but instead of picking just action or comedy, I’ve asked you for your overall ten favorites. An impossible task? Naaah. Last day to vote for this one is 11/16. http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/364700

* One final LAMB-centric Plug - our first-ever LAMBlog-a-Thon hits the tubes starting 11/15. Joe C. from Cinema Fist will be handling the hosting duties, and the first round asks, in the spirit of Turkey Day, who in Hollywood are you thankful for? The catch is that you can’t pick an actor or director (too easy and they get enough love as it is). The details are here.

* Our first (and I believe only) French-language LAMB (Acheter et Entretenir sa Tronçonneuse) has some big news. I’ll let JP tell it:

“I’m not sure exactly why, but almost half of my readership is made up of Anglophones (yes, that’s you). To read me you need to use the “English” link above and, automagically, it turned the blog into some kind of weird English-like language that may - or may not - help you understand what the hell I’m talking about. That’s nice, but far from perfect.

So, I will (slightly) reduce my posting frequency, but that means that I can put a little more time on each post so the decision that I took is to make Acheter et Entretenir sa Tronçonneuse a bilingual blog.

From now on, no more Google translation gibberish, you will have instead Ghidorah’s poor English skills gibberish.”

* Dark City Dame of Noirish City is having another contest, and it’s even focused directly on you LAMBs. Here’s the deets:

“In honor of film critic Dean Treadway, joining me for 30 days in November to discuss 30 of his favorite films from 2000-present, I am having another contest for the month of November.

BTW, if you miss the first question just email me and I will email the answer to you. Instead of, answering 30 questions (1 per day for the entire month) I decided that the contest will only consist of 4 questions asked (1 per week until the end of the month). And, the contest is only “open” to members of the LAMB.”

* Finally, it’s nearly done (but not quite), but Paul from Careful with That Blog, Eugene is hosting a blog-a-thon as well. It’s titled Horrors: The Universal Horror Blog-A-Thon. Here’s some info:

“So, have you seen a Universal Horror movie? Are you convinced that Van Helsing was a spectacular film? Want to convince the world that The Raven sucked? Pissed that Frankenstein had more elements from a Nathaniel Hawthorne short story than Mary Shelly’s novel?

Hands off, that one’s mine.

If you have something to say, anything to say at all about the Universal cannon, from Phantom of the Opera to the Werewolf of London, please, drop by.”

And here’s the awesome artwork he’s got for it:

Plugs 10/18

I didn’t formally request plugs from y’all, but I have a few stashed up that I wanted to get up before it’s too late (if it isn’t already):

* New LAMB Noirish City is hosting an Alfred Hitchcock Trivia Contest, and it’s taking place throughout the month of October. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page for details.

* The Lightning Bug’s Lair also has something special for October. Here are the details straight from the Bug’s, er, mouth:

“THE HALLOWEEN TOP THIRTEEN NEEDS YOU!

It’s October, and in the 13 days leading up to Halloween, I will be posting a countdown of the The Lightning Bug’s personal favorite horror flicks to watch around All Hallows Eve. I’m not saying they’ll be the best to everyone, but they will be my personal favorites.

I’m looking for anyone out there who would like to submit their personal top 5 horror films for Halloween. Each day of the countdown I would like to have one of these lists as well. If you’re a blogger I’d be happy to put a link or banner to your blog with the list, or if you’re one of my loyal readers, let us know a bit about yourself.

Number 13 will be posted on October 19th so get your lists in soon as you can. Mail your lists to The Lightning Bug and take part in a celebration of every horror fan’s favorite time of year.”

* More October/Halloween-themed fun, as Jason from Invasion of the B Movies takes on the Halloween series. Here’s the skinny:

“So the month of October has fallen upon us and I’ve decided to do something SO FREAKIN ORIGINAL it’s gonna BLOW YOUR MINDS!

For the last 9 days in October I wanna feature a review of a “Halloween” film!

Yes applaud me for my genius.

Anyway, I could use some help. If anybody wants to review/cover any of the Halloween films, including the Rob Zombie version, and post the review on your blog/site, then I’ll link it on my blog. For clarification:
-I’m gonna be doing Halloween 3 since it’s on my site but it needs to be updated badly.
-The other films are open though and those include:
Halloween
Halloween 2
Halloween 4: Michael Meyers Returns
Halloween 5: Michael Meyers Needs The Money
Halloween 6: Seriously Michael This Is Getting Said
Halloween Water
Halloween Jesus
House of a 1000 Corpses Halloween

Ok those aren’t the actual titles but you get the point. Anyway, respond to this post or email me your pick, if you wanna do this to invasionofthebmovies at gmail dot com . I’ll need to know everyone’s picks no later than the 20th so it’ll give whoever picks the first Halloween time to have it up by the 23, the day the blogathon starts.

Thank you so much and let’s make this “9 Days of Halloween” fun. Original title, no?”

* Finally, he’s not a LAMB (though I think a few of you are familiar with him), but Jason from The Cooler emailed asking me if I would include a plug for him. Since he ought to be a LAMB anyway, I’m happy to oblige. He’s hosting the Politics & Movies Blog-a-thon. More details here.

Got a plug of own? An upcoming blog-a-thon, contest, or other event? Email me or post the details at the LAMB Forum (there’s a thread in the LAMB Bidness section).

LAMB #194 - Noirish City

URL: http://noirishcity.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Noirish City
Categories: Interviewing fellow bloggers about their blogs, occasional movie contest, reviewing films and talking favorite books with fellow bloggers, that I hope to interview on my blog.
Rating: General (General Audience) Parental Guidance (PG-13)
MPGG Rating…. G or PG (The only reason for the PG rating is because I don’t know what my guest will discuss in the course of an interview.)

What is the main focus of your site?
Interviewing other bloggers about their favorite films, books and music

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
Personally, I want to learn as much as I can about other bloggers, by inviting them to my website and interviewing them.

Do you prefer an interactive ‘community’ for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
An interactive community because I want my readers to be able to communicate with me as well as each other.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
My first blog has been up for about 2 and a half months now and I update film reviews by professional writers once a week. My second blog has been up for about a month and I recently interviewed T.S. from (Screen Savour) about his coverage of the 31 days Salute to director Alfred Hitchcock.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
3 of Alfred Hitchcock’s best… The Lady Vanishes, Rear Window and Strangers on a Train.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
From 2 fellow bloggers name T.S. (Screen Savour) and Rick (Coosa Creek Mambo) whose blogs that I frequent and leave comments.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that’s not listed above.
Why do I like blogging?

Because I have been given this wonderful opportunity to meet a lot of different people in the blogging community. Who(m) happen to share some of the same interest that I do…Talking movies…with other bloggers… sharing information with each other, and most importantly, becoming friends with fellow online blogger not only here in the United States, but (from places as far away as France, Australia, UK, and Canada.)

A couple of Questions that I would ask a guest….

First of all, I would ask them…. Why do they enjoy watching the films that they have selected to discuss with me? Secondly, I would ask them….Why do they enjoy reading the kind of books that they selected to discuss with me? Finally, I would ask them…. Why do they enjoy blogging?
