REMINDER: Vote in the 2011 LAMMYs; Also, I Need a Favor

So the 2011 LAMMY Nomination Poll has been up for a week and a half and I want to thank the 38 LAMBs who’ve cast their ballots so far. However, there is still a week and a half to go and we’re not yet at half the voters we had for the 2010 LAMMYs. So the rest of you eligible LAMBs (#1-900) please go vote:

If you don’t know where to start out of 900 blogs, here’s some advice:

1. Scroll back through all the fantastic For Your Consideration Banners that have ruled the site for the past week. Thanks to all 69 of you who have taken the time to make them and send them in, so far. It’s not too late to send one if you haven’t yet.

2. Check out the completely updated Sortable Table (very handy for Best Classic and Sci-Fi/Horror Blog Awards) and Scrollbox available. By updated, I mean dead and inactive LAMBs have been put to pasture, and all the new LAMBs have been added.

Speaking of the Table and Scrollbox, I need a favor from every LAMB reading this: please find your site on both and verify that everything is in working order (i.e. your site’s name is spelled correctly and reflects the current site name, your url works and links to your site, your site is listed and wasn’t accidentally considered “dead”, etc.). If you cannot find your site or need changes made, please comment below or email me. I don’t know if you don’t tell me.

Thanks in advance!

The dynamically updating LAMB Scroll Box!

So, remember that post from, um, yesterday, about the new way to update the LAMB scroll box?

Well, scratch that. Because this is world’s better. With many thanks to Rick from Stop the Planet of the Apes… I want to get off., you need only do one more update to the code on your site…and then never again (I hope), because all the updating on my part will now dynamically update the code to whoever has it posted on their site. Brilliant, no? Here’s all you need to do:

Copy this code. Paste it where you currently have your code.

Done. Every time I edit the source code, it will update on your site. Note: if you wish to, you can edit the height, width, or LAMB button (change only the image name) displayed in the above code when placing it on your site (I do for BC, anyway).

Let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.

Updated LAMB Scroll Box Code

File this under: things I should have thought of long ago.

At the bottom of the LAMB Scroll Box, I tell you to “email the LAMB” if you want an updated version of the code. I get requests periodically, but for the most part, people’s boxes on their sites are wildly out of date (even the one on BC gets that way sometimes).

Such is the trouble of not having something that can update dynamically. I’ve been told by a LAMB (T.C. of Popcorn N Roses, iirc) that I can use javascript to make it do so, but I’m no programmer and doing so would amount to a learning curve that I’m too impatient to endure. File that under: things that I plan to do at some point.

In the meantime, I realized that I could use freewebs.com to store a text version of the code. Then I can post the link to the file here and anyone who wants it can save it and update their box without having to email me. As a bonus, with it up here, perhaps more people will add one to their site. My intention right now is to go through this process at least once a month, so if you don’t see a new version by June, give me a hard time and I’ll get on it.

Anyway, here’s the link: http://www.freewebs.com/blogcabins/lambscrollboxcodes/LAMBScrollBoxCode042309.txt

Instructions: Do a right-click (Mac users, click and hold down or CTRL+click), Save Target As (or Save Link As). In the dialog box, you’ll see that the extension has been changed to an htm file. Ignore this for now and save to the destination of your choice. Once saved, manually change the extension from htm to txt. Update on your blog as you desire.

Let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.
