2011 LAMMY FYC Posters - Japan Cinema & The Lightning Bug’s Lair

Send me an FYC image and I will post it! I’ll be posting dual FYCs in one post, but if I have to, I’ll increase it to 3 or 4 per post later. The nomination voting period only lasts until May 9th!. When you’re ready to vote, do it here: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/521956

FYC #4: Japan Cinema

PLUG: The Lightning Bug’s Lair

Hello folks. Now that October is here; it’s time to start planning Halloween festivities. For me, that means planning for the 3rd Annual Halloween Top 13. As usual I will be counting down thirteen of my favorite scary gems starting October 19th and running right through to the big day. This year I’m turning an eye to the absolute scariest thing for a horror fan, a remake. Call them reimaginings if you will, but we all know what they are and how much we dread hearing the newest cinematic victim announced. However there are more than a few gems in the rough, and my task is to count them down in Halloween Top 13: The Remake! But I don’t want to have all the fun…..

As with every year of the Halloween Top 13, I like get as many readers and fellow bloogers in on it as I can. So each day along with my countdown post, I want to include someone else’s remakes list. You can feel free to single out as many or as few as you’d like (13 is quite a task for those daring enough), choose to elaborate or mearly enumerate, but no matter how many I get I promise to publish them all. If you have a website or link you’d like to include, please attach it with the list. Mail all your Halloween Top 13: The Remake lists to thelightningbug@charter.net or check out The Lair for more details on how you can help remake The Halloween Top 13 bigger, stronger, and scarier than ever!

Got a Press Release, something to Plug, or a Screener available for review (or some combination of the three)? Ok, don’t get all crazy about it. Just click here and give me the details (what, when, where, and a link, for starters) - I’ll handle the rest.

PLUG: The Lightning Bug’s Lair

Hello LAMBs

I just wanted to let you folks know about The Lightning Bug’s Lair’s Two Years, Too Awesome Giveaway running though the end of August. When I started The LBL, I had no expectations that anyone would read it at all, and so now I want to give back something to three special readers.

Here’s all you have to do. Send an e-mail to me at thelightningbug@charter.net with the subject line “Two years, Two Awesome” and just tell me briefly what your favorite post, feature, or segment has been your favorite in the last two years. I’ll pick three lucky winners and here’s what they get.

First Place- A DVD Copy of Sleepaway Camp (The first film reviewed on The Lair) and a DVD Copy of J-Men Forever (The film that inspired The Lightning Bug’s Lair).

Second Place- A DVD Selection of Your Choice from the Vaults of Cinema De Bizarre

Third Place- A Pair of VHS Gems Straight from the Lair!

So there it is. I hope you’ll all come by to enter. The deadline is Tuesday August 31st to enter. For more info on all the August events I’ve got going on check out the Two Years, Too Awesome post over at the LBL.

Thanks,
Zachary

LAMB Leaderboard updated for June!

After a couple months away, The Lightning Bug’s Lair is back on top of the Leaderboard, but it came down to the wire, as former “champ” CTCMR and rising star Film Forager were hot on its heels.

Four new/returning entrants to board, and I think three of them have yet to even have their profiles posted - impressive! Leading the way is Kano’s Lay-Z-Boy Theater, charting at an impressive #4. some bad news, though, as a healthy 25% of the board is inhabited with generic LAMB banners. The goal is a generic banner-free board. One day…

Speaking of LAMB Banners, seven new ones added to the Gallery/random banner widget - awesome! The new ones hanging proudly are for: Wopsploitation, A Life in Equinox, Watching Hammer, Phil on Film, Attack from Planet B, The Hollywood Revue, and Strange Kids Club.

Want yours in there? Just send it to me. More details on that here.

For Your Consideration: Ross v Ross, The Lightning Bug’s Lair, Film Forager, and Radiator Heaven

Hey you! Send me an FYC image and I will put it up! I don’t care if I get one from 50 sites, I’ll find a way to get them all up, and as soon as possible (the nomination voting period only lasts until May 12th!). When you’re ready to vote, do it here: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/482056

FYC #26 is for LAMB #405, Ross v Ross.

FYC #27 is for LAMB #181, The Lightning Bug’s Lair.

FYC #28 is for LAMB #196, Film Forager.

FYC #29 is for LAMB #83, Radiator Heaven.

LAMB Leaderboard updated for March!

After six months atop the Leaderboard, 24 Hours to Midnight: The Blog has finally been taken down (all the way to #2) by longtime ‘board rival The Lightning Bug’s Lair. A rowdy huzzah to both of you, and congrats to the Bug.

Just three new/returning entrants to board, led by Big Mike’s Movie Blog, returning after a long absence to the #5 spot - impressive. Also good - just two generic LAMB Banners over there. Thanks to all of you that have sent one in.

Speaking of LAMB Banners, I was blown away again by all of the new ones (and updated ones) I received in the last month - 10 new entries and 2 updates in all! The new ones hanging proudly in the Gallery are the banners for The Great White Dope, This Guy Over Here, The Incredible Suit, The Movie Snob, Journalistic Skepticism, Scare Sarah, The Pale Picturehouse, The Athletic Nerd, Le Mot du Cinephiliaque, and iRate Films. They’ve also been inserted into the Random LAMB Banner box.

Want yours in there? Just send it to me. More details on that here.

PLUG: The Lightning Bug’s Lair

It’s the Halloween time of year again and this year The Lightning Bug’s Lair will be wall to wall with frightening delights and scary cinema, but for the last 13 days of the month leading up to Halloween, the Halloween Top 13 will rise again as The Halloween Top 13: The Sequel. So what does that mean? That means that I’ll be counting down my personal favorite 13 horror sequels, but I don‘t want to hog all the fun for myself. I’m looking for some intrepid folks to send me their list of favorite scary sequels. Include as many or as few as you’d like, list them, comment on them if you‘d like, or whatever moves you. Send your lists to thelightningbug@charter.net, and I’ll be happy to have them. Each day of the countdown I’ll be including one of the lists, and of course plugging everyone’s site along the way.

Hope to hear from some of you soon.

LAMB Leaderboard updated for August!

…and it’s The Lightning Bug’s Lair yet again. Larry seems to be working quite well for the Bug, giving him back-to-back wins (and I believe three out of four months) on the Leaderbaord. I wonder what would happen if we all had a Larry?

In other LAMB Banner news, I’ve added five new ones to the Gallery - this time for 24 Hours to Midnight: The Blog!, chud50’s film reviews, Here’s Looking Like You, Kid, Japan Cinema, and Nevermind Popular Film. If you’re one of those five, your banners now ‘hang’ proudly in the Gallery and have been inserted into the Random LAMB Banner box.

Want yours in there? Just send it to me.

Finally, in an attempt to de-clutter the place a bit (as per the LAMB’s own Blustering), I’ve taken down the B.L.O.C. (Big LAMB On Campus) showcase banner for the monthly Leaderboard topper. No offense meant to the Bug, but it seemed like it was one widget that, while nice, wasn’t serving as much of a purpose as some of the other ones. I’d like to think of some way to honor the Leaderboard leader, but in the meantime, sitting on top in the Leaderboard’s prominent position makes for a decent reward in and of itself.

LAMB Leaderboard updated for July!

…and we have a returning champion atop as the B.L.O.C. (Big LAMB on Campus). Congrats to The Lightning Bug’s Lair for dominating the Leaderboard, with 39 more hits than the second place site, equal to the amount of total hits from sites 19 and 20 on the list. Speaking of which, I don’t know if it’s just summer doldrums or what, but 18 hits should never be enough to make the Leaderboard. No offense, of course, to Riku Writes, a relatively new LAMB - making it that early is an accomplishment unto itself.

In other LAMB Banner news, I’ve added three new ones to the Gallery - this time for Careful with that Blog, Eugene, The Film Reel, and Jairam’s Jives (the next new LAMB to be posted). If you’re one of those three, your banners now ‘hang’ proudly in the Gallery and have been inserted into the Random LAMB Banner box.

Want yours in there? Just send it to me. After all, we can’t have 35% of the Leaderboard being generic LAMBs every month, can we?

Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering #8: The Lightning Bug’s Lair

It’s Blusterin’ Time!

If you’re new to this feature or need a refresher, click the label at the bottom of this post and see the first few posts. Otherwise, here’s the basics:

What I’ll do is list a site; you’re asked to critique it. But here’s the catch: to induce the most honest reactions, don’t leave the comment using your normal alias/login - instead, go anonymous, and be as brutally honest (or complimentary) as you wish to be. Also, be specific, and naturally, don’t be rude. If I deem anything inappropriate, I’ll have no problem deleting the comment.

So, go to the site listed below, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes, then come back and leave some constructive criticism and/or comments that you have.

Site: The Lightning Bug’s Lair
LAMB#: 181
URL: http://www.thelightningbugslair.com/

If you’re up for this treatment for your site (and you’re a LAMB), send me an email with the subject “Bluster Me!” If you’ve already done so, no need to do it again - you’re on the list, and these will be going up in order of when I received your email.
