Who Are LAMB #5

A few times in the past, Dylan asked us all to participate in a little demographic study to see who we all were. The results were interesting, if you like numbers and stuff; click here if you’d like to see them.

Well, it’s time to check those stats again, since we’ve gained over 450 members since the last Who are LAMB? round. I’ve set up a new poll with all the same questions from the previous round. I’ve got it set to run for two weeks (ends 11/20), but please, take a minute or two to go do it now. It’s really short and mostly multple choice. Go take it now:

Who are LAMB (#4)?

There were 154 participants in the latest Who Are LAMB? survey, compared with 101 last time (though, of course, there were fewer LAMBs at that time; probably about the same level of participation overall).

The results:

Compared to last time, you’re: slightly younger (yay!), much more female (from 19% to 32%), a tad bit straighter (88% to 91%), a bit less committed, relationship-wise, more white (81% to 86%), and less American (68% to 62%). More details below - here are the full results:

I asked a few other more specific questions. For those in the US, I asked for a state. Of 97 possible, 90 provided a state. Last time, the top state was California, with 7 LAMBs; not so this go around. New York re-takes the crown, with 13, followed by the Golden State with 10 and Illinois and Utah tying for third with 5.

Of the 14 Canadian respondents, we have 2 from British Columbia, one from Nefoundland, 5 Ontario and 4 Quebec. The LAMB is certainly getting more continental, with 38% non-US/Canadaian bloggers, with 25 UK folks leading the way.

Since I’m a wildly curious individual, I also asked you all just what it is that you do “for real.” I’m glad to say that 100/101 people answered. Below I give you everyone’s answers, with identifying information deleted, in a random, hard-to-read order (each answer is separated by a comma). Trust me, it’s better than listing one per line:

account manager/writer, accounting, acting and odd jobs, actor, administrative assistant and freelance writer, advertising, archivist consultant, art teacher , artist, authors / media, banking, cameraman and editor, college professor, computer helpdesk, computer programmer, computer tech/computer repair, coordinator, statistical research, currently student, database analyst, executive account for an advertising agency, finishing up a culinary degree, interning at a local newspaper and working for a caterer part time, freelance writer, graduate student, graduate student , graduated with a film degree, currently work in a real estate office as a receptionist, guidance counselor, happy housewife who bakes too much and freelances part time while attempting to get that blockbuster published , help run my family’s manufacturing business, high school english teacher, it project manager, legal assistant, legal office manager, magazine editor, medical student, museum shop supervisor, freelance copy-editor, my wife and i run a three screen arthouse cinema in harrisburg pa and also write a monthly film column for a local alt monthly paper, office clerk in the music industry, online marketing for a children’s book publisher, order desk/customer service with an organic culinary oil company , planning manager for call centres, also run music groups at local church, property manager, pt freelance writer, ft mom, publishing sector, purshasing, reservations agent for a british holiday longhaul tour operator, school to be a paramedic/firefighter, sell vintage collectibles online, sit around wishing i had a job, solicitor, speak russian, student, student, student, student, student, student, student at high school, student in journalism, teacher, theatre, public relations, tech support, tech support for a party rental company, tech writer, television broadcasting, test development, the blog and associated movie reviewing on radio and in print and a company i co-founded that does research and ratings of public corporations (i’m a lawyer), unemployed, university student, us census, video editor / film critic, write on film for my blog, writer, writer, writer.

Who are LAMB (#4)?

A few times over the last few years, I’ve asked you all to participate in a little demographic study to see who you all were. The results were interesting; click here if you’d like to see them.

Well, I’d like to take the temperature again. I’ve set up a new poll, updated with some suggestions from those of you that took the survey last time. I’ve got it set to run for just under a month (ends 10/12), but please, take a minute or two to go do it now. It’s really short, non-invasive, and promises to blow your mind! Ok, maybe not. Go take it now!

Who are LAMB? (round III)

There were 101 participants in the latest Who Are LAMB? survey, compared with 79 last time (though, of course, there were fewer LAMBs at that time; probably about the same level of participation overall).

The results:

Compared to last time, you’re: about the same age, much more male (from 69% to 81%), equally hetero-homosexual, a bit more commited, relationship-wise, and equally white. More details below - here are the full results:

I asked a few other more specific questions. For those in the US, I asked for a state. Of 69 possible, 65 provided a state. Last time, the top state was New York with 9 LAMBs; not so this go around. The USA’s most populous state is representing the LAMB the most as well, with 7. Utah (??) was 2nd with 5 LAMBs, followed by Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Texas with 4, and Colorado, Minnesota, New Jersey and New York tying with 3 each.

Of the 7 Canadian respondents, we have 3 each from British Columbia and Ontario, along with one from Quebec. The LAMB is certainly getting more continental, with 25% non-US/Canadaian bloggers, compared with 20% previously, and including 12 folks from the British Isles.

Who are LAMB? (part III) + some completely unrelated items

A few times over the last two years, I’ve asked you all to participate in a little demographic study to see who you all were. The results were interesting; click here if you’d like to see them.

Well, I’d like to take the temperature again. I’ve set up a new poll, updated with some suggestions from those of you that took the survey last time. Hopefully, this poll-taking will get you in the mood…to take more polls! It’s been some time since we ran the course of LAMB Top 10s, in which we counted down our favorite movies (overall and in a number of genres - you can look back on what we did here).

Well, it’s almost time for the LION awards, where we’ll count down 2009’s best. In the meantime (after Who are LAMB?), I’d like to kickstart some other Top 10s, from our favorite Directors to Actors to Character Actors to…who knows? Let’s get some interesting lists going, shall we?

———-

On a completely unrelated note, if you partake/publish a podcast on your site, I’d like to know. I’m interested in putting up a weekly or every-other-week post rounding up the various podcasts that you LAMBs produce, in an effort to promote them all a bit more. So, if you’ve got one or are a participant in a non-LAMB sites’ podcast, shoot me a link to the most recent one (preferably one done within the last two weeks). If I get enough for starters (and then on a regular basis), I’ll publish depending on popularity.

Who are LAMB (part II)?

I pestered and pestered, and the results have come in. You’re dying to know who you are, aren’t you? Aren’t you?

Well, compared to last time, you’re: slightly older (24% in the 36-45 age range compared to 8%), more feminine (78% –> 69%), equally hetero-homosexual, similarly commited, relationship-wise, and equally white. More details below - here are the full results:

I asked a few other more specific questions. For those in the US, I asked for a state. Of 63 possible, 59 provided a state. The top was not California, but New York, with 9 LAMBs. California, Illinois, Massachusetts, and North Carolina all tied for 2nd with 3 folks. Sadly, I’m the only Arizonan LAMB. I really need to promote more locally…

Of the 9 Canadian folks, 6 are British Columbia, 2 Quebecs, and one Ontario. All 4 European survey takers reside in the United Kingdom, and Asia is represented by India and Singapore.

Since I’m a wildly curious individual, I also asked you all just what it is that you do “for real.” I’m glad to say that 78/79 people answered. Below I give you everyone’s answers, with identifying information deleted, in a random, hard-to-read order (each answer is separated by a comma). Trust me, it’s better than listing one per line:

C’mon…just 24 so far?

I don’t ask much of you all (do I?), but I’d like, nay, need to see a better turnout for the current Who Are LAMB? poll currently up at Mister Poll. (American) LAMBs - it’s voting season, and we’re only sporting a ~25% voter turnout! This is a mockery of our election system!

But seriously, with roughly 200 LAMBs, I’d like to see at least a 50% turnout to get an accurate portrait of our demos, so, if you haven’t yet, please take one minute out of your day and take part in the new poll.

Who are LAMB?

A couple times over the last few months, I’ve asked the LAMBs to take part in a little quiz I set up to gauge the demographics of the site authors that have joined. Participation ran pretty high, with 60 sites answering (out of a possible 95 or so).

Not surprisingly, the profile of your average LAMB author matches that of the usual stereotypical computer geek: a straight, single white American male between the ages of 26-35. However, that’s certainly not the whole story; below are the results:

1. Age
Under 18 - 6% (4 people)
18-25 - 28% (17)
26-35 - 51% (31)
36-45 - 8% (5)
46-55 - 5% (3)
56-65 - 0% (0)
Over 65 - 0% (0)

2. Gender
Male - 78% (47)
Female - 21% (13)

3. Sexual Orientation
Straight - 86% (52)
Gay/Lesbian - 11% (7)
Other/not identified - 1% (1) (voter identified as “bi”)

4. Marital status
Single - 74% (44)
Married - 25% (15)
(it was pointed out to me that “in a relationship” should have been an option; an oversight on my part)

5. Ethnicity
Asian/Pacific Islander - 6% (4)
African-American - 1% (1)
Caucasian - 81% (49)
Hispanic - 6% (4)
Native American - 0% (0)
Other - 3% (2)

6. Location
North America - United States - 74% (44)
North America - Canada - 10% (6)
Europe - England - 5% (3)
Europe - Other - 3% (2)
Asia - 6% (4)
South America - 0% (0)
Africa - 1% (1)
Australia - 1% (1)
(I had forgotten a few options in the poll, but thanks to the comments, I was able to add in the answers.)

Additionally, I asked those in the US or Canada to name their state or province. Not surprisingly, the top states were three of the most populous: California, New York and Texas, all with 4 people. Illinois, Minnesota, and North Carolina all had 3 apiece. As for Canada, it was all about British Columbia (4) and Ontario (2).

That’s it for now. If you haven’t been sent the link to the poll, don’t feel bad. As we near 200 sites, I’m sure I’ll send it out again so that we can see what’s changed, if anything. Thanks to all for taking part, and especially to those of you that left me some funny and/or complimentary comments.
